What are you doing?
This shows that you are trying to use the HyperText Transfer Protocol (http) to get something.
(See also Other Types of Links, section VIII-B.)

www.dcn.davis.ca.us/

On what server?
This shows that you are trying to access a file on the DCN's WWW server. This segment can be either a name or an IP address (such as 168.150.253.1).

/~csandvig

In whose account?
This shows that you are accessing the home directory (the tilde "~" usually means home directory) of the account for "csandvig".

/ip

In what directory?
This shows that you are looking in a subdirectory, called "ip", within an account, or higher-level directory.

demos.html

With what file?
This shows the name of the file you are requesting.

In what part?
This is the place within the file you want to look at. Frequently this is absent, and you will start at the top.
