March General Meeting of the Club

The next general meeting of the club was moved from March 25th to March 27th due to a conflict with the Yolo County central committee meeting. This new date posses a conflict with the DAvis School Board. The Democrats on the school board will be invited to write statements to acknowledge the guest of honor, Tony Bernhard. It was decided that this event would be a potluck event and that Stephen would rotate the alphabet for dishes to bring.

Stephen has identified people to invite: Dick Fisher, Ed Prieto, Mike McGowan, and Helen Thompson. He needs to concentrate on the Winters School board to get the names of the Democrats currently serving. Stephen is also inviting the Democrat electeds from Winters and West Sacramento. Stephen will ask Kingsley and will use the Monarch system, which defines party affilliation.

The Democrat Club Board suggested that all the past Davis City Council electeds (Democrats) be invited. It is expected that 30 to 40 electeds will be invited. The Club President, Stephen Souza, will preside over the meeting.

To get the room in condition for the meeting, Stephen volunteered to see about steam cleaning the carpet. Bob Bockwinkel also volunteered to help in the process.

It was suggested that the club see about renting a wireless microphone for the event. Richard volunteered to follow-up on seeing what it would cost to rent one for the meeting.

Stephen discussed giving an award to Tony with a card. An engraved clock was discussed as an award. Stephen volunteered to speak with Freddie Oakley as to what would be useful -- a clock or a watch. It was moved that $100 from the club treasury be set aside for the clock or watch. This was moved by Bob and seconded by Tony. This passed unaminously.

The structure of the general meeting will be the same, a potluck with the dishes brought by people determined by their position in the alphabet. Bob moved that 12 bottles of Martinelli's be purchased for the event and that the club purchase the plastic flutes. This was seconded by Jim and passed unaminously.

January 28th Meeting review

Bob Bockwinkel stated that it was a good meeting with one of the largest turn outs for the club over the past 2 years. He stated that the Patriot Act was a good topic and the club was united on this. A letter for the board was sent on Monday (February 10). Cecelia Escamelia-Greenwald has the copy of the resolution with the clubs collected at the meeting. A copy with the signatures will be forwarded to Art Torres, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, and Mike Thompson.

OTHER CLUB EVENTS

After the March meeting, the champagne brunch is planned for Mother's Day. This event has to be finalized. Bob talked about finalizing the date with the Cooks.

Bob moved to have the Blanchard Room reserved for April to have a meeeting if war is declared against Iraq. The cost of the reservation to the club will be $10. This motion was seconded by Mike and passed unaminously by the board.

Mike announced that there was a peace demonstration scheduled in Sacramento on Saturday (Febrary 16). Bob made the motion that the board make a statement and that the board come out in support of the peace demonstration. Discussion ensued. Bob stated that the Democrat Club Board can make a statement against the war and pass it as the Democrat Club Board. Julia then made the motion and Bob seconded. The motion passed.
