Holmes Bulleltin for TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2004



NEW BIKE RACK: Students who take a class 1st period at the high school have
only 10 minutes to ride to Holmes and get to class. A new bike rack by the
attendance office door is reserved for these students. Everyone who uses this
rack must walk their bikes to the street at the end of the day.



GSA MEETING: Seventh & eighth graders, come to the 1st GSA meeting of the year
on Wed. in rm 5 during your lunch period. See you there!



SCHOOL DANCE: Hey Patriots! The first dance of the year is on October 1st.
The cost to get in is $5.00. Bring your student ID. Wear your best 80?s outfit
for this blowout 80?s dance. See you there.



There will be MUSIC ON THE QUAD Tuesday, September 21st at lunchtime. Bring
your favorite school-appropriate music to rm 39 by Friday the 17th. Be sure to

Holmes Bulletin for WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2004

THIRD & B TEEN CENTER: Dance with Third and B! The first all jr. high dance of
the school year is happening this Friday, September 17th from 7-10pm at Third
and B. It's only $4 for a fun time! Make sure have a current medical form on
file. PS... 8 and 9th graders... the ones you filled out last year are gone.

Center. A parent needs to fill it out! 7th graders....if you attended the 6th
grade bbq and party then we have your form on file!

NEW BIKE RACK: Students who take a class 1st period at the high school have
only 10 minutes to ride to Holmes and get to class. A new bike rack by the
attendance office door is reserved for these students. Everyone who uses this
rack must walk their bikes to the street at the end of the day.

campuses immediately following school. Harper dismissal is at 3:20, so you are
not allowed to be on Harper campus before 4:00 pm. Failure to follow this
policy will result in consequences.

BUS PASSES: Starting September 21st, bus passes must be purchased by check
only. Please make checks out to Holmes Jr. High. One pass worth 10 rides is
$7.50. Passes are sold Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in the attendance
office.

DRAMA: Twelfth Night Auditions will be held on Sept. 20, 22, and 23 from 3:15 -
5:30 pm. Sign up in room 25 after school or during 9th grade lunch. See Mr.
Bryant for questions.

SINGERS: Sing the national anthem at the Jr. Blue Devil football games! Solos,
duets, groups or instruments, all are welcome to try out. Auditions will be at
Emerson Jr. High this Friday (9/17) in the multipurpose room between 6 and 7:30
pm (The auditions are very informal.). If you can't make the Friday auditions

MAGAZINE SALES are here! There will be an assembly on Tuesday the 21st in the
MPR. Ninth grade goes during 2nd period, eighth grade during 3rd period, and
seventh will be 4th period.

"Are you concerned about elected officials and the decisions they make that
affect your life? Do you like to discuss current events? Can you define the
word blogger? If you answer 'yes' to just one of these questions, then we
have the right club for you! Meet in room 23 at lunch on Tuesday, September
21st with Mrs. Mowry, Mr. Thomsen and Mrs. Reeve to help create Holmes' newest
club. All political persuasions are welcome!"

INTERESTED IN A GREAT CLUB? The BUILDERS CLUB is a service organization that
encourages students to help out at school and the community. We sponsor many
activities: the Children's Haunted House, Battle of the Books judging, tree
planting and campus beautification. The first meeting will be Tuesday, Sept.
21st at lunchtime in the library. Please bring your lunch.

GIRL SCOUTS: There are flyers available in the office for students interested
in joining girl scouts. An informational meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7:00
pm in the Blanchard Room at the Davis Library.

BIKE SAFETY WEEK: As you may know, there have been several bike/car accidents in
the past three weeks of school. Fortunately, no one has been badly hurt.
Remember to always wear your helmet securely fastened. It may save you from
serious head injury.

If you are someone who wants to be an advocate for ALL students at HJH and who

RECYCLING: Together we CAN make a difference for the planet. Come join the
Holmes Recycling Team Thursday during lunch at room 2.

IN-LINE HOCKEY: JV and Varsity league play began last weekend, 9/19-20, for
boys junior high in-line hockey. There was a tremendous turnout for the tryouts
which were held two weeks ago at DISC (Davis Indoor Sports Center). The teams
have players from the three jr. highs, and they compete regionally. Practices
are once a week with games during the weekends.

Holmes Bulletin for THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2004

BIKE SAFETY WEEK: Bike accidents hurt. Remember to stay in designated bike
lanes and bike paths rather than riding in the car lanes. Make use of the bike
lanes on Drexel.

DANCE: There will NOT be dance on Sept. 24. Our first dance will be NEXT
Friday, Oct. 1 from 7:30 - 10 pm. The theme is "El Baile de Salsa," or "The
Salsa Dance." Price is $6.00 to get in, and don't forget to bring your student
I.D. card.

MAGAZINES! The first magazine sale turn in day is Monday, September 27. On
that day, you can win prizes like a giant pen, a flying monkey, or even a limo
cruise! Don't forget that the top 10 third period classes get an unforgettable
assembly, and the top sellers get to be Principal of the Day! Also, someone
will be drawn randomly to be vice principal of the day for those turning in one
order. The drawing will be held October 6th.

HEY PATRIOTS, This Tuesday is COWBOY DAY!!! Dress up as a cowboy or cowgirl and
check out the rally on the quad at lunch.

FYI: There will be a CAN FOOD DRIVE from October 11th to November 12th. Start
gathering non-perishable foods!

9th GRADE WRESTLING: The Davis High School Wrestling Team is holding pre-season
conditioning workouts on the DHS track on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at
4:45 p.m. The season begins November 1. Ninth graders are welcome to join - just
show up to the workouts, which last about an hour. Contact the head coach Andres

MAGAZINES! Only send e-mail order requests to people you know personally. The
first magazine sale turn in day is Monday, September 27. On that day, you can
win prizes like a giant pen, a flying monkey, or even a limo cruise! Don't
forget that the top 10 third period classes get an unforgettable assembly, and
the top sellers get to be Principal of the Day! Also, someone will be drawn
randomly to be vice principal of the day for those turning in one order. The
drawing will be held October 6th.

DANCE: There will NOT be dance on Sept. 24. Our first dance will be NEXT
Friday, Oct. 1 from 7:30 - 10 pm. The theme is "El Baile de Salsa," or "The
Salsa Dance." Price is $6.00 to get in, and don't forget to bring your student
I.D. card.

HEY PATRIOTS, This Tuesday is COWBOY DAY!!! Dress up as a cowboy or cowgirl and
check out the rally on the quad at lunch.

FYI: There will be a CAN FOOD DRIVE from October 11th to November 12th. Start
gathering non-perishable foods!

COMPETITIVE FPS: Seventh, eighth, & ninth graders, sign up for competition with
Mrs. Bryant in room 7.

IN-LINE HOCKEY: JV and Varsity league play began last weekend, 9/19-20, for
boys junior high in-line hockey. There was a tremendous turnout for the tryouts
which were held two weeks ago at DISC (Davis Indoor Sports Center). The teams
have players from the three jr. highs, and they compete regionally. Practices
are once a week with games during the weekends.

Holmes Bulletin for MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2004

The FIRST DANCE of the school year is this Friday, October 1, 2004 from
7:30-10:00.
Please remember that:
? The school dress code must be adhered to at this school activity.
? You must have you your I.D card with you to attend the dance.
? If you don't have your ID you will HAVE to buy anther one for an extra $5 in
order to get into the dance.
? All of your attendance and detentions must be cleared.
? You must attend school the day of the dance.
? The dances begin at 7:30 p.m. and end at 10:00 p.m.
? Your parent/guardian needs to pick you up promptly at 10:00 p.m.
? There is music and dancing in the MPR.
? You must arrive before 8:30 p.m. and stay until the dance is over unless you
are picked up by a parent/guardian.
? If, for some reason you must leave before the dance is over, you must be
picked up by a parent/guardian.
? There are no "formal" events at Holmes Junior High School.
? These dances are for Holmes students only, and all school rules apply.
? Student visitors are never allowed at a Holmes sponsored school dance.
? Parents are welcome to visit dances and/or help chaperone.
? You are not to be on the school campus unless you are attending the dance.
? If you have un-served detention, you will not be allowed to attend the dance
(a notice will be sent to these students the week of the dance).
? The behavior at the dances should always be appropriate. Running, pushing
and horseplay, as well as all types of inappropriate dancing ("moshing" and
"freaking", etc.) will all result in a time-out or a call to parents to be sent
home from the dance. Students may also be excluded from future dances for bad
behavior.
? If you plan on attending the dance, you must have attended school that same
day.
If you have been suspended from school and your school activity participation
restriction is in place during a scheduled dance, you may not attend the dance

MAKE-UP/RETAKE PICTURES DAY will be on Thursday, September 30, 2004. If you
were not here for picture day on September 3 or you want to retake your
pictures. Now is the time. If you want to purchase pictures, order forms are in
the office Return your old pictures for retakes. The schedule for Thursday,
September 30, 2004 will be:
8th grade will be during 2nd Period in MPR (stage)
9th grade will be during 3rd Period in MPR (stage)
7th grade will be during 4th Period in MPR (stage)

STUDENT COUNCIL meeting is on Thursday, Sept. 30 during 4th period in the
library. All student council officers and 4th period representatives, please
come!

The DAVIS CHILDREN'S CHORALE is accepting new members. Please pick up a flyer
in the office for more information.

PATRIOT POLITICAL GROUP: If you have cool ideas and want to be involved
politically, come to Holmes' newest club on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 during
lunch in the Music Room.
