Yet Another Reason to Support Bob Kent
For Twenty years an exceptional Congressman, Vic Fazio, represented Northern California. Two Years ago, we knew that finding a replacement to fill Vic's shoes would not be easy.
None of us knew that Vic's replacement would walk barefoot, however. The incumbent Representative has sponsored just six bills and amendments. He has taken credit for numerous projects -- such as replacing the control tower at Travis Air Force Base -- which were promoted by Vic Fazio for years and worked their way through the Washington bureaucracy to receive final approval in this Congress. His voting record shows a lack of concern for working families and seniors; he was non-responsive to the Tri-Valley crisis. The incumbent has not made an impression, here or in Washington.
The people of this district deserve a hard-working Congressman focusing on the issues that matter to them -- a Congressman like Vic Fazio.
Bob Kent IS that Congressman. But don't take our word for it... See what Vic Fazio has to say. -- this is a PDF document
Bob Kent KNOWS The Issues
If elected to Congress, I intend to zealously represent the Third Congressional District. Because of my experience as an international business consultant, my participation in several community organizations, and my knowledge of the issues confronting our lawmakers, I feel that I will be able to use an intelligent, "common sense" approach to meet the needs of the people of our community. Four of the most important reasons I seek election to Congress are improved education, retirement issues and prescription medicines our seniors, fairer taxation, and the environment.
Taxation
Oliver Wendell Homes once said, "Taxes are the price we pay for civilization." If I am elected to Congress, I will participate with other representatives in studying our budget as well as the actual and perceived costs of "civilization" and explain them clearly to our taxpayers. I will also encourage legislation to explore further tax reforms. Americans ought to understand how much we are taxed, why and what we receive in return.
Economy
In the most robust sustained economic growth in decades Northern California hasn't truly shared in the bounty. I will work to see to it that we share in the expanding economic expansion of America. Northern California should not be left out while supplying the water and food to fuel the economic growth to the south.
I truly believe that actions speak louder than words. If I am elected to represent the people of the Third Congressional District, I will support proactive legitimation that improves our economic and our quality of life to the best of my ability.
Education
If elected to Congress, I plan to improve the public education we offer to our children by refusing to endorse a voucher system that places public education on the auction block. I will support legislation to increase the pay and benefits for our teachers while seeking to reduce class size. I will act with others to write bills to modernize our schools with the latest technology so our children can compete for jobs in the marketplace.
Senior Issues
I will fight for the rights of our senior citizens by advocating legislation that will allow prescription drugs provided by monies into Medicare. Privatizing Social Security may seem like a good idea in these times of economic prosperity, but gambling away the hard earned savings of our retired citizens will be a mistake. I will support a "lockbox" for Social Security, which will protect these funds from being spoiled on other government programs or on a roulette wheel.
Bob Kent: The People's Candidate
Dear Friends,
I've heard a few say that I have no background in politics, but I pay my tuition... we call it taxes.
I've walked for candidates, knocked on doors, and arranged meetings between political leaders "off-line," set up house meetings for candidates, cried with the losers in elections and gotten ecstatic with winners. I rejoiced when Jimmy Carter won... I was excited about Bill Clinton's triumphs as our economy prospered.
I have been a businessman and a civil servant. I have met one on one with congressmen to talk about international issues and held the same type of discussions with two U.S. senators (Republicans... patriotism demanded that I speak... when it came to trade issues.)
As a candidate I am, at minimum, a person who has taken a life course in advanced American citizenship. (With the perspective of a Democrat).
I did not just jump in this race as some imply. I waited a long while before I tossed my hat into the ring. I am a "lifelong" Democrat. We have only a short time left in this race. I am declaring, so there will be no mistake, "I want this job. I want your votes and I want your help and ideas. I want to represent the people of the Third Congressional District in Washington D.C."
