Introduction to Issues and Positions
As
you decide which candidates to support in the upcoming election, I hope we
can agree that today’s decisions about energy, education, crime, health care,
taxes, state spending, regulations, local control, water, and social policy
will shape the world in which we live and that will be passed on to future
generations. With this in mind, please consider whether we are better off
today after five years of Democrat control in Sacramento and whether the current legislature is taking us to a
place where you want to be.
The call to give up small
pieces of our income and individual freedoms for promises of future security,
or to take them from some citizens for the benefit of others, can be very
seductive. But these pieces have accumulated and now add up to large tax
burdens and significant losses in rights that have been won and defended at
great sacrifice before being placed in our care and that, once gone, are
extremely difficult to restore. I believe that preserving freedom and
opportunity must be based on the principles of individual responsibility,
limited government, and free enterprise that have brought us the prosperity
we are so fortunate to enjoy today.
