Freddie Oakley has been a resident of Yolo County for 27 years.

Her husband, John, is a Professor of Law at UC Davis. Her oldest daughter, Adelie teaches high school in Sacramento and her youngest, Antonia is a student at Saint Marys College.

Freddie earned her bachelors degree at UC Berkeley and her masters degree at Yale.

Since 1999, she has served as the Yolo County's Chief Deputy Clerk/Recorder. In addition to managing elections, she has implemented a plan to ensure privacy and security of Recorder-maintained documents, worked to incorporate the latest technology into both the Elections and Recorder processes and created a successful Junior Voter Program.

From 1997 until 1999 she served as a Yolo County Supervisor for District 2. During her term in office, she founded the Yolo County Crisis Nursery and led a successful effort to turn back California Department of Water Resources plan to remove water from Yolo County.

From 1996 until 1999, she was a partner at Helyne Meshar and Associates, Governmental Affairs where she represented County Recorder's Association and California Association of Clerks and Election Officials.

In 1995 and 1996 she was Director of the California Legislative Office of the Law Firm of Brady and Berliner where she represented the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials, County Recorder's Association of California, Los Angeles County, and various nonprofit medical care providers.

From 1991 until 1995 she served as Director of Governmental Affairs of the California Public Utilities System representing the PUC before the Legislature and coordinating services with the Governor's Office.

From 1987 until 1991, Freddie was Chief Deputy Public Guardian Administrator for Yolo County where she directed programs providing total care to frail, elderly, and mentally ill persons.
